Why do designers need tech editors?
My job as a tech editor is to ensure your knit or crochet patterns are error-free, consistent in style, and ready for publication so your customers have a smooth experience making your design. This allows you to leave a great impression on crafters and increases the odds of repeat business!
“It was a pleasure to work with Julia of Knitpicked Knits. She answered my query promptly and provided me with a comprehensive overview of what to expect and the costs involved. Julia was incredibly helpful, professional and delivered the work swiftly and in the time frame promised. She was incredibly thorough and offered suggestions to improve the readability, clarity and highlighted areas of potential confusion. After working with Julia, I feel confident that my pattern is easy to read and error-free. "
“Julia's quick communication and ability to quickly turn out solid edits on a pattern were a major help to us! We were appreciative of her insight into keeping our style and use of spreadsheets to help keep track of stitch counts in a tricky design. We intend to keep using her skills as a tech editor in the near future.”

What can you expect while working with me?
I thrive on the satisfaction of knowing the smallest of details are correct. I will be checking every aspect of your pattern to ensure it will make the finished item as intended, including stitch counts, measurements, charts and more. I will also be noting any typos and checking against your style sheet if you have one, or for general consistency in your style if you do not. You will receive my notes promptly, and you can expect frequent communication if we work through multiple rounds of edits together. A final read-through of your pattern in its finished state before publication is included without charge.
My Experience
I have been crocheting for several years and have more recently begun knitting. Through my science background I have experience in technical writing, including the preparation of standard operating procedures, and editing the work of others. I have trained as a tech editor through the Learn to Tech Edit course on The Tech Editor Hub.
What type of patterns do I edit?
I am currently accepting knit or crochet patterns for household items like blankets or pillows, accessories, toys, and simple garments. Please get in touch to find out more about how I can help you put your best pattern forward!
